"I appreciate everything everyone has done for me. For being there when I needed someone to talk to. For being friends. For putting a smile on my face when I was down... Thanks for helping me through a very hard time in my life.”

The Harbour's Programs for Youth

The Harbour provides four core programs designed to deflect youth from homelessness and ease the transition to self-sufficiency.

SAFE HARBOUR EMERGENCY SHELTER

Our Safe Harbour Emergency Shelter offers safe, short-term shelter for girls ages 12-21.

The Harbour’s goal is to discharge girls to a safe and stable environment, preferably home, with a plan designed to maintain safety, family stability and healthy functioning.

TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM (TLP)

The Transitional Living Program (TLP) provides supervised living for homeless girls ages 16-21 while they receive life skills training and transtion to self-sufficiency.

By developing successful life skills that enhance school and vocational success, competency, and self-reliance, these girls are given a future free from homelessness or public assistance.

INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM (ILP)

The Independent Living Program (ILP) serves 16-21 year old homeless young men and women as they make the transition to independence.

As a "final phase" to independence, employed youth or those with a high school diploma are provided with declining rent subsidy and social services in their own apartment.

SUCCESSFUL TEENS/EFFECTIVE PARENTS ("STEPS")

The Harbour's Successful Teens / Effective Parents ("STEPS") program provides transitional living and specialized services for homeless pregnant and parenting youth ages 16-21.

We are the only agency in the north suburbs and north metro area providing residential services to pregnant and parenting youth -- a population particularly at-risk.
