Position Description
Position Title: TLP Foster Parent/Resident Advisor
Essential Functions:
1. Direct Service: Provides live-in, daily supervision and support to residents in the Community Transitional Living Program of The Harbour.
This includes:
a. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with youth in care
b. Providing an adult authority and role model figure to guide youth in daily living
c. Teaching and modeling independent living skills and enable residents to practice these skills
d. Reviewing documentation regarding employment, school and savings
e. Providing crisis intervention and milieu counseling
f. Maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment
g. Participating in programmatic meetings with residents related to household issues,
conflict resolution and positive communications.
h. Participating in intake process as requested
i. Ensuring a physically and emotionally safe environment for residents
j. Serving as the primary liaison to the resident's school/educational setting and employer
2. Documentation: Documents resident activities and behaviors in client files and
communication logs per agency procedures.
This includes:
a. Producing progress notes on each youth per Agency policy
b. Maintaining medication records as needed
c. Producing critical incident reports as needed
3. Teamwork: Works collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to develop
and implement plans for both individual youth and the living group as a whole.
This includes:
a. Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with all team members
b. Communicating concerns across shifts
c. Participating actively as a staff member in groups scheduled during working hours
d. Maintaining positive relationships with colleagues internally and externally, referral sources, client family members, and
the community
4. Administration: Insures that the site operates in physically safe and financially responsible
manner including:
a. Takes responsibility for daily and ongoing maintenance of the facility including management of petty cash.
b. Maintains and turns in receipts for petty cash expenditures
c. Completes maintenance forms and follows through on repairs and other household maintenance issues.
d. Serve as the primary liaison to the rental agent ensuring open and cooperative working relationships.
e. Assume phone coverage, 24 hours, Sunday-Thursday
5. Professional Growth: Participates in supervision and staff development and displays the
ability to utilize and integrate material presented in training and supervision.
This includes:
a. Completion of 80 hours of agency required training.
b. Obtains and maintains certification in First Aid and CPR
c. Participates in weekly supervision, brings issues into supervision, and demonstrates that material covered in supervision is utilized in job performance.
d. Attends at least 10 hours of in-service or external trainings annually and demonstrates that material presented is integrated into practice.
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- BA/BS in human service field. (Exception possible with two years college and experience in foster care or working with adolescents)
- Maintain legal residence in the assigned TLP and be physically present from 7pm to 7am four days per week, and from 5pm to 7am on Tuesday evenings
- Become a licensed foster parent within two months
- Model and guide independent living skills
- Formulate respectful relationships
- Experience with adolescent/young adult population
- Valid Illinois driver's license
- Have use of car able to transport five adults
- Drive agency van or own car to transport residents
- Operate household equipment: grill, washer, dryer, TV, VCR
- Operate kitchen equipment: stove, coffee maker, microwave, deep-fryer
- Operate office equipment: fax machines, copier machine, phone, calculator, computer
- Walk up and down stairs at least 20 times per shift
- Supervise residents via direct eye contact and observing behavior
- Lift bags of groceries and boxes of donated items up to 20 lbs
- Write reports and write in logs and client files
- Move household furniture of weight up to 25 lbs. and moving it a distance of at least 12 feet to arrange and re-arrange home
- Annual Salary $18,000 with excellent benefits package
