Volunteer Spotlight, September 2015
Ted Sigg - Harbour Board of Directors Member
Thank you, Ted, for your dedication to our mission!
September’s Helping Hands Club inductee is Ted Sigg, 30-year volunteer and Harbour Board of Directors member.
Lifelong Park Ridge resident, Ted Sigg is a professional volunteer. That's even what it says on his business cards. To say Ted gives more than he takes is an understatement. For the last 30 years Ted has made The Harbour one of his top philanthropies and priorities.
Back in 1982, Ted's AM Kiwanis group became involved with The Harbour (formerly known as Crisis Homes). The group volunteered for various projects including cleaning up the garden plots, fixing up the shelter and throwing a holiday party for Harbour youth. The holiday party has since become an annual tradition, held each year for more than 20 years.
Ted has been a great volunteer over the years, taking on projects not many people have the time to help with. He has created partnerships connecting The Harbour with other organizations, maintains our garage, picks up big donations and refinished our donation storage room.
"I don't mind helping with mundane tasks; helping with things that other people see as a 'big deal.' I enjoy helping Harbour youth and showing them that someone out there cares about them." -Ted
Ted helps wherever is needed and is more than willing to help all Harbour youth. He strives to show them people care about them and that there are plenty of opportunities for a better tomorrow out there for them.
When asked why he has volunteered for over three decades, Ted replied, "I feel needed here. Youth have come up to me and told me it is so nice that someone cares about me. That is what keeps me coming back and supporting The Harbour year after year."
